Frida Kahlo
2016
Medium: Acrylic on canvas
Size: 36" x 48"
Description:
This painting of Frida Kahlo, one of the artist’s biggest influences, was originally painted live on stage at The Delancey in downtown New York City in front of a live audience on Kahlo’s birthday.
There was a moment of empowerment in painting Frida’s essence that pulled the artist back through her own life to all of the challenging moments growing up as not only a woman in a man’s world, but a woman in a firm religious community. Like Frida, the artist channels her challenges to fuel creativity, express her feelings and inspire.
This piece went on to be exhibited in many major art shows and festivals such as: Patricia Field's ARTFASHION Show in 2017, CENTENNIAL: SHE exhibition in 2017 (inspired by the suffrage movement that led to women getting the right to vote in New York State in 1917), Frida Kahlo House in Miami Art Week in 2019 (in collaboration with the Mexican Government and The Frida Kahlo Corporation), and Artel Hotel's launch event in 2020.
